General Motors confirmed that it will build the super model of its Chevrolet Camaro powerful vehicle in Oshawa car complex late in 2011. The company unleashed the 2012 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 with 6.2L supercharged V8 engine at the Chicago Vehicle Show. Chevrolet automobile, which already builds two models of the Chevrolet Camaro in Oshawa car complex, said the newest high performance edition will produce about 550 horsepower with torque of 550 pounds-feet. The superstar reported in December that General Motor would resurrect the Camaro Z28 nameplate, one of the most powerful replica in the Chevrolet Camaro family, here late in this year or starting of 2012. But Chevrolet automobile is using the Camaro ZL1 name instead, in the recognition of year 1969 racing version of the Chevrolet Camaro.
General Motors ended Camaro output in its St-Therese, Que., and factory in year 2002 but entered it in 2009 at Oshawa car complex after the concept version attracted rave reviews & interest at North American International Car Show. The Camaro coupe beat sedan Ford Mustang in United States power car popularity in the year 2010 for the 1st time from 1985 with sales of 81299 vehicles. But the Ford Mustang still topped Chevrolet Camaro in Canada in 2010. According to industry insiders the addition of the Camaro ZL1 will probably mean simple incremental, if any of the job rises at Oshawa car complex because the more production won’t make huge volumes. The factory, which employs around 4000 workers, is the only process in world that assembles Chevrolet Camaro. It started making the convertible edition recently.
